A. Every cat should have an annual physical examination. As your cat enters their geriatric years (approximately 8 years of age) the Veterinarian will make individual recommendations regarding other diagnostics or preventative care. Q. How often should I deworm my cat? A. Indoor cats should have a stool sample (fecal) examined for parasite eggs each year. Outdoor cats should also have a fecal exam yearly and receive deworming medication 4 times per year. Q. What vaccinations are recommended for my cat? A. All cats should be vaccinated for upper respiratory diseases (FVRCP which include Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia) and Rabies Disease. Outdoor cats should also be vaccinated for Feline Leukemia Virus. The frequency of these vaccinations will be discussed with each owner depending on the lifestyle of each cat (Indoor, outdoor or combination of these styles) Q. When should my kitten be spayed or neutered? A. The best time to spay or neuter is at the age of 5 - 6 months prior to the first heat or estrus cycle or sexual maturity.
