The Awards Gala was held Thursday night, March 13, at The Center of New Hampshire, hosted by NH.com. Dr. Joann Young and the designer, Alan Anderson, dedicated the award to Mr. Anderson's cat, Jones. The Cat Doctor of Dover's website competed against 51 other entries in the Service Business Site category. This category is for service-oriented businesses that use the web to inform consumers about the special services they offer. Veterinarians, hospitals, architects, website designers, and banks are examples of services businesses. The award judges commented that the Cat Doctor site is Extremely educational, the content communicates the quality of care given, and gives us the confidence in your capabilities. It's cute like cats, and warm and friendly like the care that is given. The judges' most important comment was about their overall experience, "We would definitely take our cat there." Gov. Craig Benson joined New Hampshire's Internet community to celebrate the Granite State Web sites that had earned the title "best" in 20 categories, including a "best of show." Benson called on the designers and innovative companies in the audience to tap into their entrepreneurial spirit and help him make state government more accessible and interactive. "For the past fifty years, we've done business by the doorknob," he said. "It's time to conduct more of our business with the mouse." He congratulated the winners for embracing technology and for constantly evolving and innovating. This year, the Awards represent virtually every economic sector in the state, commented NH.com New Media Manager Kathy Schwartz. "Each of the Web sites that were entered in this year's contest demonstrates the state's business leaders understanding that while a Web site is not an end unto itself, it is becoming an important part of every type of business endeavor," she said. "And New Hampshire has done a great job keeping up with, and even anticipating, these innovations." Links to all of the Web sites entered in the Internet awards are posted on NH.com. Beyond promoting the development of technology and communication in New Hampshire, the Internet Awards also benefits Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) to further their goal of incorporating technology into the care of their pediatric patients. The Awards were sponsored by New Hampshire Community Technical College in Nashua, MicroArts, G4 Communications, WMUR Channel 9, and WZID 94.5.
